Ditton Manor as Queen Charlotte’s Family Home

Queen Charlotte came from a royal family in the north of Germany but in the Netflix series, the scenes at her family home were filmed in England at Ditton Manor.

Ditton Manor (or Ditton Park) is a peach-colored manor house near Slough in Berkshire. The moated house was built in the early 19th century in a typical romantic style, with its castle-like appearance, using turrets and stucco crenelations.

Syon House as Royal Palace

The Syon Park Conservatory plays a prominent part in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.  The wonderful bright space, which is usually used as a wedding venue, is filled with plants, flowers,  and orange trees.

Syon House is a West London mansion that is the seat of the Duke of Northumberland. The country house was first built in the 16th century by the Duke of Somerset. The name of the house comes from Syon Abbey, a medieval monastery that was founded by King Henry V.

The house has many ties to English royalty: Henry VIII’s fifth wife, Catherine Howard, was imprisoned at the house before her execution, Henry VIII’s coffin rested at Syon House for one night, Lady Jane Grey, “The Nine Days Queen” lived at the house when she heard the news that she was to become Queen, and the future Queen Anne also lived at the house after being evicted from Queen Mary’s court.

Another noteworthy resident of Syon House is Thomas Harriot, who worked at Syon House when he first made use of the newly invented telescope. He made astronomical drawings of the moon, even before Galileo Galilei made his observations.

In the 18th century, the house was redesigned by Robert Adam, who gave the interiors an eclectic design.

Blenheim Palace as Buckingham House

Buckingham House is the grand estate gifted to Queen Charlotte after her wedding to George III. Most of the scenes at Buckingham House are filmed at Blenheim Palace. There are several scenes in the Buckingham House dining room which are filmed in the Saloon of Blenheim Palace, and in episode two, Queen Charlotte walks through The Long Library.

The Saloon in Blenheim Palace was painted around the time of the Peace Treaty of Utrecht (1713-1715). It features a three-dimensional painting (called a trompe l’œil), a fashionable painting technique in the early 18th century. The painting represents the coming of peace with all the nations of the world coming together peacefully.

Blenheim Palace is a grand country house and family seat of the Dukes of Marlborough in Oxfordshire. It is unique for being the only non-royal and non-episcopal country house in England to be called a palace.

Blenheim Palace is one of the largest country houses in England. It was built in the early 18th century as a gift to John Churchill for his military successes in the War of the Spanish Succession. The English Baroque country house was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, and it was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

Merton College as Wedding Scene

In the first episode, Charlotte and George are wedded in a beautiful chapel. These wedding scenes in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story are filmed in the chapel of Merton College in Oxford.

The Merton College Chapel was built in the late 13th century, and it’s unique as a religious English building, and almost all medieval glass panes have survived.

Wilton House as Royal Palace

Wilton House is a favorite among period drama location scouts. You can also see the country house in Emma and Pride and Prejudice, among others. Wilton House has been the film location of several houses in Bridgerton. Fictional houses like Hastings, Clyvedon Castle, and Lady Danbury’s Grand Hall were filmed at Wilton.

In Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Wilton House is mainly used for the royal palace where Princess Augusta resides and receives visitors like Lord Bute.

Perhaps the most famous room at Wilton House is The Double Cube Room which has golden decorations and large paintings. You can often see Princess Augusta sitting in this room.

Wilton House in Salisbury has been owned by the Earl of Pembroke since 1544. The estate has never been sold and currently, the 18th Earl of Pembroke resides in the house.

Holburne Museum Bath as Lady Danbury’s House

In Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, we see when Lady Danbury received her title and her new estate. This new house, which we also saw in Bridgerton, was filmed at The Holburne Museum in Bath.

The Holburne Museum is located in the Sydney Pleasure Gardens, the only remaining 18th-century pleasure gardens in England. The Holburne Museum is the first public art gallery in Bath. The collection of Sir William Holburne is the main attraction of the museum. During his Grand Tour, he acquired a taste for art, and this is how he started his collection. He left his art collection, which features work by Gainsborough, Guardi, Stubbs, and Zoffany, to the city of Bath.

Hampton Court Palace as Royal Palace

The Bridgerton world also uses an actual royal palace as a film location. Several shots in Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte are filmed at Hampton Court Palace. However, the palace was not built for royalty. Instead, the historic building was constructed for Cardinal Wolsey in the 16th century.

Eventually, Hampton Court Palace was given to King Henry VIII, and it quickly became one of his favorite palaces. Together with St. James’ Palace, they are the only palaces that survived King Henry VIII’s reign.

Dorney Court as Lady Danbury’s Old House

Before Lady and Lord Danbury are granted their new title and estate, they lived in a different house. These scenes are filmed at Dorney Court, one of the finest Tudor houses in England, and many of its interiors are in their original state.

Dorney Court has been owned by the Palmer family for more than 500 years. While the house is mainly in its original state, the exterior was rebuilt during the Victorian period, but they used the original bricks, making it look very Tudor and perfect for the Bridgerton world.

Windsor Great Park

Many will recognize The Long Walk to Windsor Castle, which is located in the Windsor Great Park. This royal Park lies next to Windsor Castle’s private Home Park. The Windsor Great Park used to be Windsor Castle’s private hunting ground, but now it’s open to the public so everyone can enjoy its natural beauty.
